Description

A simple and rewarding recipe for fresh artisan bread with a crispy crust and soft, chewy inside, perfect for sandwiches or toasting.


Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water


Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together flour, salt, and yeast.
  2. Add warm water and stir until a wet, shaggy dough forms.
  3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it rise at room temperature for 12 to 18 hours.
  4. Flour a work surface and gently turn the dough out onto it.
  5. Fold the dough over a few times and shape it into a ball.
  6. Place the dough on a floured kitchen towel, cover it, and let it rest for another hour.
  7. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and place a Dutch oven inside to heat.
  8. Once heated, carefully remove the hot Dutch oven, place the dough inside, cover it, and bake for 30 minutes.
  9. Remove the lid and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the crust is golden brown.
  10. Let the bread cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

For added flavor, consider mixing in herbs, garlic, or cheese into the dough. Store cooled bread in a kitchen towel or paper bag at room temperature for up to three days.
