Description

Delightful cinnamon sugar soft pretzels that combine warm, chewy texture with sweet and spicy flavor, perfect for snacking or breakfast.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Pour warm water into a small bowl and sprinkle yeast over it. Add sugar and stir until dissolved. Let sit for 5-10 minutes to activate.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
  3. Once yeast mixture is foamy, pour it into the flour mixture along with melted butter. Stir until a dough forms.
  4. Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide into 8 equal portions.
  7. Roll each portion into an 18-inch rope and shape into a pretzel.
  8. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Boil 10 cups of water in a pot and stir in baking soda.
  10. Carefully drop pretzels into boiling water for 30 seconds each, then remove with a slotted spoon onto a lined baking sheet.
  11. Brush pretzels with beaten egg and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture.
  12. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

Best served warm with dips like cream cheese or chocolate sauce. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
