Ingredients
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Pour warm water into a small bowl and sprinkle yeast over it. Add sugar and stir until dissolved. Let sit for 5-10 minutes to activate.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
- Once yeast mixture is foamy, pour it into the flour mixture along with melted butter. Stir until a dough forms.
- Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide into 8 equal portions.
- Roll each portion into an 18-inch rope and shape into a pretzel.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Boil 10 cups of water in a pot and stir in baking soda.
- Carefully drop pretzels into boiling water for 30 seconds each, then remove with a slotted spoon onto a lined baking sheet.
- Brush pretzels with beaten egg and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack before serving.
