Description
A simple and delicious one-pan dish loaded with protein, vegetables, and a savory sauce, perfect for busy weeknights.
Ingredients
- 1 Tablespoon olive oil
- 3-4 cups broccoli florets
- 1 pound lean ground beef (or ground sirloin)
- 2-3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 8-10 cranks freshly-ground black pepper
- sesame seeds (optional garnish)
Instructions
- Warm the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add broccoli and cook, tossing frequently, for 3-4 minutes until vibrantly green and tender-crisp. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add ground beef and garlic. Cook for 5-6 minutes, breaking into small pieces as it browns. Drain excess fat.
- Mix together soy sauce, brown sugar, toasted sesame oil, ginger, red pepper flakes, and black pepper in a bowl or measuring cup. Whisk until smooth.
- Pour the sauce into the skillet with the beef. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Return broccoli to the pan and toss to coat. Season with salt to taste, and serve immediately over rice or noodles. Garnish with sesame seeds if desired.
Notes
Chop broccoli into uniform pieces for even cooking. Adjust spice level by increasing red pepper flakes or adding fresh chili peppers. Allow sauce to simmer longer for a thicker consistency.
