Ingredients
- 1 cup water (110°F)
- 1 pinch powdered ginger (optional)
- 1 cup milk (110°F)
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 tablespoons active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 5-1/2 cups bread flour
- 2 tablespoons butter (melted)
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the warm water and ginger (if using). Stir in the sugar and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
- In a large bowl, combine the milk, salt, oil, and yeast mixture. Mix well.
- Gradually add the bread flour, one cup at a time, mixing until dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until it doubles in size.
- After the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide it into two portions and shape them into loaves. Place the loaves into greased bread pans.
- Brush the tops of the loaves with melted butter before baking.
- For bread machine instructions, add the ingredients in the order recommended by the manufacturer and use the basic bread setting.
Notes
Make sure your water and milk are at the right temperature (110°F) to activate the yeast properly. For extra flavor, you can add herbs, cheese, or spices to the dough.
